Sabetha PTO 5.6.19

Sabetha PTO met at the Sabetha Elementary School Library at 6 p.m. Monday, May 6. In attendance were Principal Sara Toedman, President Kara Tramp, Vice President Jennifer Ploeger, Treasurer Jeanelle Plattner, Secretary Hannah Dettwyler, Anita Meyer, Lori Menold, Crystal Wedel, Miranda Young and Sami Boldra.

Minutes were approved as read. Plattner read the treasurer’s report. Dettwyler read all correspondence.

New Business

Randi Schmid contacted PTO regarding the free Crayola Recycling Program. Crayola will recycle all brands of our used plastic markers. Tramp reported that Schmid would be the lead for this program. Tramp will connect Schmid with Shari Frey at the Sabetha Elementary School to set this up.

Old Business

Toedman gave an update on the SchoolStore fundraiser that kicked off in February. Nearly $8,500 was raised, and Toedman was able to hand out more than $7,800 worth of gift cards to our teachers.

Tramp gave an update on the PTO carnival games. The local Wesleyan Church was able to use many of the games for their annual pumpkin festival. They have picked up the games and will be making a donation to the PTO in return.

Committee Reports

Labels: Wedel reported $828.20 raised in Box Tops for the school year. All of the labels have been sent off, and checks will be coming. The second grade class was the winner of the ice cream party. Wedel also reported that the process of cutting labels will be phased out as everything is moving to online. There will be a phone app that will allow you to scan your receipt.

Bluejay Gear: A discussion was had on whether or not to have an online sale during enrollment. Boldra discussed having an option online in which customers could donate Bluejay gear to Neighbor-to-Neighbor’s Kids Kloset. Both discussions were tabled until the next meeting.

School Supplies: Young reported that 101 students have signed up. Young will send out confirmation emails to all the parents who have sent payment.

Landscape Maintenance: Tramp reported that Greg Strahm did maintenance in April. He shared that some bushes have died due to the excess rain.

Classroom Enhancement: Tramp reported that we have three new representatives serving two-year terms for our Classroom Enhancement Program selection committee — Jamie Strahm for SES, Darcie Jackman for SMS, and Robyn Scoby for SHS.

SHS Kickoff Lunch: Menold and David Glynn are working out the details for the Kickoff Lunch in August.

Spelling Bee: Tramp reported that Sheri Edelman will be taking over as lead for this. Krista Wasinger will train her.

Back-to-School Breakfasts: Dettwyler is the lead for this. The dates of Aug. 19 or Aug. 20 were discussed as potential options for the breakfast. Dettwyler will work on the Sign-Up for this during the summer.

Teacher Appreciation Week: Dettwyler reported that the coffee and rolls were delivered this morning. The lunch will take place this Thursday. All sign-up spots for the lunch were filled quickly.

There will be no June meeting, as per usual procedure. The PTO Executive Board members will meet in July, at which time Ploeger will assume the responsibilities of president, Boldra will be vice president and Melissa Dornes will be treasurer. Dettwyler will continue as the secretary.
