Bravos fall to Blues

The Sabetha Bravos welcomed the Baldwin City Blues to town on Monday, June 17.

The Bravos held the lead through the fifth inning, but the Blues came through fighting in the sixth and would eventually win the contest, 10-8.

The Bravos would get on the board first in the second inning with two runs scored on a ground-out and an error.

Sabetha added three runs to their total in the fourth on triple by Wilkin Perez and a sacrifice fly by Ivan Medina. The score was 5-0 heading into the fifth.

The Blues finally got on the board with one run scored in the top of the fifth and would add another five runs — and take over the lead — in the top of the sixth. With Sabetha not answering on runs in the sixth, the score was 6-5 heading into the seventh inning. Baldwin City added another three runs to extend their lead, with runs coming from a Brandon VanBecelaere home run.

Sabetha answered scoring three runs as well in the bottom of the seventh. The Blues scored their final run in the top of the eighth, making the score 10-8. Sabetha couldn’t manage any more runs, and the Blues would take the 10-8 win.

Welinton Perez went three for six, driving in two RBIs and tallying one run. Medina also tallied two RBIs during the contest.

Jose Marroquin started on the mound for the Bravos, throwing 5-1/3 innings. He allowed four runs on three hits, while striking out six batters and walking six.

Marroquin was relieved by Daisuke Yasui. Yasui was relieved by Diego Martinez, who allowed three runs on three hits, while striking out one batter and walking one.

Jonathan DeLeon came in on relief — throwing two full innings. He surrendered one run on two hits, while striking out four batters and walking three.

Estuardo Amado threw the final frame, striking out one batter.
