Bravos fall to Brigade in doubleheader

After the two previous games were canceled due to lightning, the Bravos welcomed the Junction City Brigade to town for a doubleheader on Monday, June 24. The Bravos lost both games, 7-3 in game one and 14-5 in game two.

Game one

The Sabetha Bravos got on the board first with two runs scored in the first inning. Junction City answered in the third — scoring four runs and taking over the lead. Both teams scored one run in the fourth inning, and Junction added another two in the sixth to take the 7-3 win.

The Bravos tallied three hits, while the Brigade tallied eight. Cesar Paz went two for two at the plate with one run scored. Paz and Ivan Medina each hit a double in the contest.

Brock Renter threw the entire game for the Bravos, allowing seven runs on eight hits, while striking out eight batters and walking five.

Game two

The Brigade started off the nightcap game strong with four runs scored in the first inning. Sabetha answered in the second and third innings — scoring two runs and one run, respectively. The Bridge extended their lead in the fifth by seven runs, which included a home run, triple and two doubles. After nine innings of play, Junction City would take the 14-5 win.

The Brigade scored 14 runs on 18 hits, while Sabetha only tallied seven hits. Eddie Pimentel went two for four on the night, while Edgar Tecu and Steven Oliva each tallied two runs. Wilkin Perez, Carlos Barrios and Xavier Juarez each tallied an RBI during the contest.

Jose Marroquin started on the mound for the Bravos, throwing the first four frames. He allowed eight runs on nine hits, while striking out five batters and walking three.

Wade Witt came in on relief for the next 3-2/3 innings. He surrendered five runs on six hits, while striking out six batters.

Paz threw the final 1-1/3 innings. He allowed one run on three hits, while striking out one batter and walking one.
