Brown County Fair to begin next week

The 101st annual Brown County Free Fair officially is slated for Sunday through Friday, July 7 through 13.

Special attractions and entertainment for the fair include a country music show by Erik Dylan, a parade, Fair Fun Run, commercial booths and exhibits, a parade, and a Pedal Power Tractor Pull.

The Pedal Power Tractor Pull will begin at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 11, at the outside cement platform. Registration begins at 6 p.m., and is open to all boys and girls through 11 years old. Children must be registered by their parents.

The country music show by Erik Dylan will be offered at 8 p.m., Friday, July 12, at the cement platform at the Horton Fairgrounds. In case of inclement weather, the show will be moved to the Horton Civil Center.

A Fair Fun Run will be held at 7 a.m. Saturday, July 13.

Fair events are as follows. Events take place at the Horton Fairgrounds or Horton Community Building, unless otherwise noted.

Sunday, July 7: 2:30 p.m., Horse Show, Babcock Arena in Hiawatha

Monday, July 8: 10 a.m.: Clothing and style revue judging and visual and fiber arts judging; 3-9 p.m., Northeast Kansas Judging Day (projects judged include entomology, forestry, geology, robotics, rocketry and wildlife.

Tuesday, July 9: 9 a.m.: foods judging and food sale; 9:30 a.m. favorite place setting judges begins; 10 a.m., dog show (agility following), on cement platform; 4-8 p.m., enter livestock; 6-8 p.m., enter rabbits and poultry; 6 p.m. sheep and meat goat weigh-in; 6:30 p.m., beef weigh-in; 7 p.m., swine weigh-in.

Wednesday, July 10: 7:30 a.m., pancake feed by Brown County Farm Bureau; 8 a.m., begin entering 4-H and open class; 8:30 a.m., rabbit show; 9 a.m., food sale continues; 11:30 a.m. all entries in place; Noon, judging (banner, plant science, home environment, miscellaneous, photography, electricity, woodworking and open class; Noon, swine exhibitors meeting; 1 p.m., Eddie Grathwohl Memorial Beef Clinic; 2 p.m., pet show on cement platform; 2-3 p.m., photography discussion period with judge; 3 p.m., poultry show; 3:30 p.m. bucket calf meeting; 7 p.m., fashion revue/food auction.

Thursday, July 11: 8:30 a.m. swine show; 11 a.m., hot dog lunch by Union State Bank; 1-3 p.m., photography and crops and weeds judging contest; 1-3 p.m., 4-H presentations; 3:30 p.m., bucket calf interviews; 4:30 p.m., bucket calf show; 5:30 p.m., beef/dairy show; 6 p.m., registration for Pedal Power Tractor Pull; 7 p.m., Pedal Power Tractor Pull.

Friday, July 12: 8 a.m., sheep, meat goat/dairy, shep. lead; 11:30 a.m., lamb burgers by GNBank and Sheep families; 12:30 p.m., livestock judging contest; 1:30 p.m., round robin practice; 2:30 p.m., round robin showmanship contest; 3 p.m., special awards committee meeting; 6-9 p.m., bounce houses/rock wall; 6:30 p.m., parade; 8 p.m. free entertainment, Erik Dylan.

Saturday, July 13: 7 a.m. Fair Fun Run; 7 a.m., pancake feed by Everest Travel Group; 8 a.m.-2 p.m., bounce houses/rock wall; 10 a.m., awards program at Blue Building; Noon, Fair Olympics; 2 p.m., all exhibits released including animals; 3 p.m., livestock sale set up; 6 p.m., awards program at Livestock Arena; 6:30 p.m., meal served by Maple Heights Employee Council; 6:30 p.m., Livestock Sale.
