Bravos drop two losses to Giants

The Sabetha Bravos took on the Topeka Golden Giants in two games last week held on Monday, July 1, and Tuesday, July 2. Despite their best efforts, the Bravos would fall to the Giants in both games.

Game one

During game one, which was held in Topeka, the Giants got on the board first with one run scored. Topeka tacked on four more runs in the second and continued to hold Sabetha scoreless throughout the game. Topeka added two more runs in the seventh for the 7-0 win.

For the Bravos, Steven Oliva and Wilkin Perez each got a hit during the game.

Michael Colon started on the mound for the Bravos. He threw 2-2/3 innings, allowing five runs on three hits, while striking out one batter and walking six.

Jonathan DeLeon came in on relief, throwing the next 4-2/3 innings. He surrendered two runs on one hit, while striking out four batters and walking two.

Daisuke Yasiu pitched the final 2/3 inning for the Bravos.

Game two

Game two, which was held in Sabetha, started off the same, with the Giants getting on the board first with one run scored. Sabetha answered in the third inning with three runs scored on a home run by Eddie Pimentel and a double — which scored two runs — by Cesar Paz.

Topeka added another run in the sixth, but Sabetha answered again in the bottom of the sixth with another run scored on a home run by Welinton Perez. The score was 5-2, Sabetha, heading into the final frame.

Topeka had a big inning, and Sabetha’s defense couldn’t hold the Giants when they added five runs to their score and took over the lead. The Bravos scored one run in the ninth, but it wasn’t enough. The Giants would win the second game, 7-6.

Brock Renter started on the mound for the Bravos. He threw 8-2/3 innings, allowing six runs on four hits, while striking out 11 batters and walking seven.

Wade Witt came in on relief to pitch the final 1/3 inning. He allowed one run on one hit, while walking one batter.
