Local artist featured in ‘Signs of Rural Life’ juried exhibit

Blue Cat Gallery and Studio will celebrate its second year of operation with the juried exhibit, “Signs of Rural Life,” opening July 10 and continuing until Aug. 31, 2019. The exhibit will feature artwork exploring rural themes created by artists from Nebraska, Kansas, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Iowa.
The mediums represented vary from fused glass sculptures and digital paintings, to color photography and works on paper. The juror, Amber Hansen, painting professor at University of South Dakota at Vermillion, selected the works that will be featured in the exhibit.
Featured artists include Jeremy Koelzer of Sabetha, as well as the following: Francine Fox of Wayne, Neb.; John Hughes of Wayne, Neb.; Deb Kubik of Omaha, Neb.; Laura Snyder of Omaha, Neb.; Mackenzie Oliver of Gretna, Neb.; Kaci Schacht of Orchard, Neb.; Tori Swanson of Aurora, Neb.; Danielle Dewees of Lincoln, Neb.; Lynette Fast of Lincoln, Neb.; Jan Johnson of Wakefield, Neb.; Michele Dieber Kumm of Paullina, Iowa; Tammy Kushnir of Chalfont, Pa.; Callie Hastings of Hyde Park, Vt.; and Susan Baker, Hyattsville, Md.
An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 12, during Henoween of the Wayne Chicken Show. An award of Best of Show will be announced at the reception. All are welcome to this free and family-friendly event.
A People’s Choice award also will be given to an artist at the close of the exhibit on Aug. 31. The public is invited and encouraged to cast their vote!
The exhibit may be viewed during regular summer gallery hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and by appointment.
