Annual community event to offer something for everyone

The Sabetha Chamber of Commerce is gearing up to host its 24th annual Old Time Saturday Night from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. A big change this year is that all activities will be held on Main Street.

With the event being held on Main Street, many businesses will be open and offering specials in addition to the many Old Time Saturday Night activities, food options, entertainment and vendors.

Food options will include the following: root beer floats by Cub Scouts; hamburgers, hot dogs and fries by Sabetha High School cheerleaders; funnel cakes by Angie Bellis; pastry and tredelniks (a Czech Republic pastry) by Doris Meyer; popcorn by SBS Insurance; slushies by Sabetha Health Mart; lemonade and cherry limeade stand by Buzz Cafe; old fashioned sugar pop corn by Party Central; coffee, drinks and ice cream by Downtown Coffee; snow cones by VFW Auxiliary; snow cones by Sabetha Community Preschool; and authentic Mexican tacos, rice, beans and Mexican drinks by Mari’s Kitchen.

Activity options will include train display by Van’s Electric; dime toss by NCTC and The Right Stuff; Win it in a Minute by Rainbow Communications; inflatable obstacle course by the Kansas National Guard; fire truck on display by Sabetha Fire Department; ambulance on display with blood pressure checks by Sabetha EMS; bowling game by The Girl Cave; Corn Hole Game by Thrivent Financial; cupcake walk by Buzz Cafe; face painting by SHS cheerleaders; ring toss game by Downtown Coffee; Cisco walk-ins at 1005 Salon; rock painting at Mary Bell Boutique/Joy Pop Print Shop; color fun with Sabetha Community Preschool; Sabetha Strong Competition sponsored by C&K Service; Bingo; and ARC Wild Butterfly Release.

Entertainment will be Sabetha Has Talent to be located at Main and Ninth streets on a Keim TS flatbed trailer. Participants can sign up the night of the event. There is no charge to enter.

Other vendors include a basket raffle by Sabetha Hospital Guild; quilt raffle by Nemaha County Home Health and Hospice; and other vendors.

Following the event – beginning at 9 p.m. – Brick Street Furniture Co. + Wine Lounge will be hosting Chris Lierz of Seneca. Lierz will be playing red dirt country music until midnight.

Sabetha Strong Competition

The second annual Sabetha Strong Competition, sponsored by C&K Service, will be held at Main and Washington streets. This will include a Tractor Tire Race, Overhead Press and Farmer’s Carry.

The cost of registration is $20 for registration plus a Sabetha Strong shirt. Register by emailing [email protected]com, by calling 785-285-2139 or registering the night of the event. Winners of each category will receive a Sabetha Strong trophy.

The proceeds from this competition will go toward restoration of the owl sign.


Sabetha Chamber of Commerce has decided to bring Bingo back to Old Time Saturday Night. This will be held by Aberle Ford. Cost will be $1 per card per game. Prizes have been donated by Chamber businesses. All proceeds go toward the restoration of the owl sign.

Arc Wild Butterfly Release

Sherri McNary of ARC Wild is hosting a butterfly release. Individuals may sponsor and release a butterfly in honor of a loved one. The cost is $10 per butterfly and may be ordered in advance by visiting, calling 785-285-2567 or visiting Village Sampler.

Arrive at 6:30 p.m. at the Mary Cotton Public Library Park to pick up butterflies. They will be released at the Library Park at 7 p.m. sharp.

Proceeds will be used to build Rafiki, the owl, a new aviary.
