Sabetha native publishes first eBook

Herald Report

Sabetha native Cynthia Hill, a registered Occupational Therapist (OT) at the Sabetha Community Hospital, recently wrote and published her first eBook, The Hand Arthritis Manual – Simple Solutions to Manage Arthritis Pain and Stiffness Without Drugs or Surgery.

Hill has more than 25 years of experience working with people who have some sort of injury, disease or illness that has resulted in a limited ability, or inability, to do their day-to-day activities. It is her job as an OT to help them get back to doing the things that are important to them.

According to Hill, she has always had a special interest in working with hand injuries. Oftentimes, she finds that people put off addressing the aches and pains they are experiencing, especially in their hands. They tend to ignore the early signs and symptoms of arthritis — the weakness, clumsiness, stiff joints, swelling and pain.

When they do decide to seek help, it’s usually after unsightly joint deformities have begun to form. According to Hill, people tend to think the pain in their hands isn’t a “big deal.”

However, Hill believes that anything relating to our hands is a very big deal since we use them for almost everything. That said, it is very important to be aware of the condition of your hands.

Hill knows what parts of the hand are most important, and how it can affect our daily activities without those parts. She states that the thumbs are most important.

“If you don’t believe me, try picking something up off the table, such as a quarter, then try turning it around in your hand without using your thumb to help,” Hill said. “Try holding a pen to write without using your thumb, or better yet, try picking up your cell phone and texting without using your thumbs at all. It is nearly impossible to do.”

She wrote her book to spread the knowledge and tools to effectively manage hand arthritis to as many people as possible. Her hope is to enable people to continue living a full and productive life despite arthritis. Hill desires for people to be able to continue doing the things they love.

I think that my website was not listed correctly in the article. Perhaps the hyphen is throwing people off. They aren’t able to access it. They should go to Once on the website then they can click on The Hand Arthritis Manual tab at the top of the page to order a copy of the ebook.
