Sabetha Fire Department 12.23.2019

At 1:44 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, the Sabetha Fire Department (SFD) responded to a field fire a half mile west of 104th and U Road. According to Sabetha Fire Chief Jim Johnson, Matt Feldkamp was burning a brush pile on some land owned by Neil Hammes of Seneca, when the fire got out of control.

Johnson said the SFD responded with 11 firefighters, one pumper, one Ranger SUV and two brush trucks. According to Johnson, approximately four acres burned, and there was no property loss or injuries. The SFD was out of service at 3:41 p.m.

“This is the first fire for the new brush trucks,” Johnson said. “The trucks and equipment worked well.”
