Timothy W. Manis was released on Jan. 7 on a $25,000 own recognizance (OR) bond with a court date of Jan. 30 at 9:30 a.m.
Allen P. Schmelzle, 38, of Axtell was booked into the Nemaha County Jail on Jan. 7 on two warrants from Marshall County. One warrant was for giving a worthless check and the other for criminal damage to property, interference with a law enforcement officer, flee and elude and reckless driving. He was released on Jan. 7 on a $203 cash bond for the bad check and a $2,500 surety bond for the other. Court is set for Jan. 22 at 9:30 a.m.
Joseph Roberts, 51, of Beatrice, Neb., was released on Jan. 8 on a $10,000 OR bond. Court is set for Feb. 27 at 9:30 a.m.
Matthew Martin, 36, of Desoto, Mo., was booked into the Nemaha County Jail on Jan. 9 on a parole violation. Martin remains in custody.
Kylar Daily was released on Jan. 12 on a total of $95,000 surety bond with a court date of Jan. 21 at 11:30 a.m.
At 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, Leroy Strathman, 60, of Seneca was traveling westbound on 232nd Road, 1/2 mile west of H Road, when he struck a deer. Strathman was driving a 2016 Ford Fusion. Damage was estimated at more than $1,000.
At 6:02 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, Drew Gibbs, 14, of Centralia was traveling northbound on Kansas Highway 63, 1/4 mile south of 104th Road, when he struck a deer. Gibbs was driving a 2007 Honda Odyssey. Damage was estimated at more than $1,000.
At 6:55 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, Mark Ronnebaum, 49, of Centralia was traveling eastbound on 40th Road, 100 feet west of C Road, when an electrical fire started under the hood of his vehicle causing more than $1,000 in damage. Ronnebaum was driving a 2014 Chrysler 300.
At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, Jacob Fink, 26, of Tecumseh, Neb., was traveling northbound on Kansas Highway 63, 0.4 mile south of 192nd Road, when he struck a calf. Fink was driving a 2013 Ford F250. Damage was estimated at more than $1,000.
At 5:41 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, Andrew Davis, 30, of Horton was traveling westbound on 24th Road, 0.4 mile west of O Road, attempting to elude law enforcement, when he lost control of his vehicle on the loose gravel and slid into the north ditch. Davis was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu. Davis was transported via ambulance to Hiawatha Community Hospital with injuries.
The Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office (NMSO) received a report of identity theft which occurred between Dec. 6, 2019, and Jan. 8, 2020. An unknown person used a Nemaha County resident’s personal information in an attempt to open a fictitious account.
NMSO received a report of criminal use of a financial card. On Dec. 25, 2019, an unknown person attempted to use a county resident’s card to make a purchase.
