Governing Body: Sabetha City Commission 1.27.2020
The Sabetha City Commission met Monday, Jan. 27, at Sabetha City Hall. Present for the meeting were Mayor Doug Clark, Commissioners Nick Aberle, Maridel Wittmer and Julie Burenheide, Assistant City Administrator Bill Shroyer and City Clerk Steve Compo. Not present was city administrator Doug Allen and Commissioner Norm Schmitt. Guests present were Bob Ruddick, Celene Holthaus, Sammi Gutknecht and Jason Enneking.
Sabetha SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) officer Sammi Gutknecht was present to update the commissioners on the projects they have been working on throughout the year. One of those projects includes Bluejay Buddies, which is a mentor program in which Sabetha High School students are matched up with Sabetha Elementary School students. Other projects include the annual county-wide middle school dance and the annual middle school winter escape, which is held at Netawaka Fitness Center.
Gutknecht, along with United 4 Youth’s executive director Celene Holthaus, requested the board’s continued support of the Sabetha SADD program. The program provides education to students on the dangers and effects of tobacco use, vape use, alcohol consumption and other kinds of substance abuse.
The board approved $2,500 in support of United 4 Youth and the Sabetha SADD chapter.
Also at the meeting:
The board approved the minutes from the Jan. 13 meeting.
The commissioners also approved a wage resolution – 2020-01 –for lineman Laine Marston.
Aberle asked Shroyer if he had any updates on bids for demolition of the Midtown Building. Shroyer said they had not received anything and they said that anyone interested should give them bids by Thursday, Feb. 13.
The commissioners will meet again at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at Sabetha City Hall.
