Jay wrestlers compete at ACCHS, Fairbury

2.6.20 – ACCHS, Maur Hill

The Sabetha Bluejay wrestling squad, composed of boys and girls, traveled to Effingham on Thursday, Feb. 6, to battle the ACCHS Tigers and the Maur Hill Ravens.

Of the possible 28 bouts between the two dual match-ups, there were 18 matches that were decided by forfeit due to open weight classes.

In actual matches, the Jay grapplers were four for six on the evening but came away with two dual wins. The Jays defeated the Tigers, 65-12, and the Ravens, 48-30.

2.7.20 – Fairbury

The Sabetha Bluejay boys’ wrestling squad traveled to Fairbury, Neb., on Friday, Feb. 7, to compete with six other teams in the Fairbury Invite 2020 Tournament.

Two wrestlers came away with medals from the action. Junior 152-pound Kaden Dillon and senior 170-pound Walker Lowdermilk both placed second in the tournament.

Sabetha was the lone school from the state of Kansas in the tournament, with the rest of the field being from Nebraska. Beatrice took the team title with 208.5 points, followed by Milford with 158.5 and York with 148. Sabetha finished the day with 40 points.

The next action for the Jay wrestlers will be on Friday, Feb. 14.

The girls will be competing at Paola in regional action beginning at 1 p.m. The second day of the regional competition will be on Saturday, Feb. 15, beginning at 11 a.m.

The boys will be traveling to Perry-Lecompton on Friday, Feb. 14, to compete in the Big Seven League Tournament beginning at 4 p.m.
