Winter Escape Night teaches students about mental, physical health

Submitted by Kenzie Strathman and Storm Hackler, WHS Student Correspondents

On Saturday, Feb. 15, Nemaha County Schools set up a fun-filled night for middle school students at the Netawaka Fitness Center. Sabetha, Wetmore, Centralia, Nemaha Central and Saints Peter and Paul School students were able to have fun while going through the lessons provided by area high school Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) chapters. They had fun by eating pizza, swimming and playing games.

High school SADD chapters taught valuable lessons on how to stay mentally healthy. Throughout the stations, Wetmore discussed mental health, Centralia showed the effects of vaping and Nemaha Central had a fun simulation with beer goggles. Each group of students was able to make a few posters to put on display in the hallways of their school, in hopes of inspiring others to make smart and healthy decisions.
