Local blood drive is canceled; CBC encourages donation at Topeka facility
Community Blood Center (CBC) announced on Monday, March 23, that the Sabetha Blood Drive, which was scheduled for April 7, has been canceled.
According to Melissa Boohar with CBC, all mobile blood drives – through CBC – have been canceled through the month of April due to COVID-19 precautions. If any healthy donors would like to donate in Topeka on Tuesday, April 7, please contact Boohar at [email protected].org for an appointment.
Cancellations – like Sabetha’s – pose a significant health threat to the blood supply. Blood is a critical component of emergency preparedness because blood is perishable, and the supply must be constantly replenished. The blood that’s on the shelf today is the blood that will save lives in an emergency.
CBC is the primary provider of blood and blood components to 70-plus hospitals and medical centers in the Kansas City region. The organization serves numerous area hospitals, including Sabetha Community Hospital, Hiawatha Community Hospital, Holton Community Hospital, Horton Community Hospital, Community Healthcare System in Onaga, Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka and Stormont Vail Health in Topeka.
The next blood drive in Sabetha is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2.
