City hires park hosts for trial run

The Sabetha City Commission met at 6 p.m. Monday, July 27, at Sabetha City Hall. Present for the meeting were Mayor Doug Clark, Commissioners Norm Schmitt, Nick Aberle, Maridel Wittmer and Julie Burenheide, City Administrator Doug Allen and City Clerk Steve Compo.

The commissioners approved hiring Kevin Wiltz and Sarah Wiltz for the Park Host job at Sabetha City Lake for a trial run. The trial run will be from August through Labor Day. The commissioners approved paying K. and S. Wiltz $100 per weekend.

The commissioners approved the July 13 meeting minutes.

Matthew Whittaker’s Eagle Scout Project of building a Skeet Shooting Range was tabled until Whittaker could present his project in person.

The commissioners approved the Hospital Lease Agreement Amendment for the use of the endless pools at the Sabetha Health and Wellness Center. According to Allen, the hospital is adding an extra hour to their rehabilitation program, which uses the endless pools.

The commissioners approved Ordinance No. 1555 for Annexation of the Apostolic Christian (A.C.) Home. According to Allen, a portion of the previous annexation left a strip of land out of the Sabetha city limits. See Ordinance No. 1555 on Page 6A.

Allen updated the commissioners on the Sixth Street project. He said a few residents in the project boundary have not had phone and internet for the past month. According to Allen, AT&T has fixed the line within the past week. However, the line the currently laying on top of the ground. Allen said AT&T is planning to come bore the line underground on Wednesday, July 29.

The commissioners asked for an update on tearing down the Midtown Building. Allen said currently Herrmann Earth Moving is planning on tearing the building down in September. The commissioners asked further questions about the items inside the building. Allen said they plan on getting all items sold or out of the building before it is torn down.

The commissioners held a 40-minute executive on personnel matters. No binding action was taken following the executive session.

The commissioners will meet again at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at Sabetha City Hall.
