Bravos split with Travelers

The Sabetha Bravos split with the Lawrence Travelers last week when they met up for two games. The first game was held Monday, June 7, in Hiawatha, and the second game was held on Tuesday, June 8, in Lawrence. The Bravos won the first game, 10-4, but fell to the Travelers, 10-7, in game two.

Game one

The Bravos got on the board first with one run scored in the first inning, but the Travelers came back and took the lead after they scored one run in the second and three in the third. Sabetha regained their lead after scoring an addition run in the fourth, and then adding four runs in the fifth and two in the seventh. The Bravos would win game one, 10-4.

Sabetha was led at the plate by Takeru Kageyama, who went two for three at the plate, and Jhovanny Valdez, who went two for four at the plate. Kageyama also tallied three runs and one RBI during the contest.

Diego Oquendo started on the mound for Sabetha. He threw five innings, allowing four runs on five hits. He also struck out eight batters, while walking five.

Oquendo was relieved by Anthony Rubio, who pitched the next two innings. During his time on the mound, he struck out four batters and walked two.

Rubio was relieved by Alexander Garcia, who threw the final two innings. He struck out three batters and walked one.

Game two

The Travelers started off with a hot bat in game two and got on the board first with one run scored. They extended their lead by scoring an additional four runs in the third and fourth innings.

The Bravos took the lead when they scored six runs in the sixth innings off a couple of base hits and a double. Lawrence regained the lead scoring four runs in the seventh and another in the eighth, while Sabetha only scored one more in the eighth. The Bravos would fall in game two, 10-7.

Wilfredo Aguilar and Ryan Webster led Sabetha at the plate, collecting four hits between them. Webster tallied two runs during the contest and also hit the Bravos’ only home run for the night.

Winston Garcia started on the mound for Sabetha. He pitched the first three innings, allowing five runs on three hits, while striking out three batters and walking seven.

Jefferson Camilo came in on relief and threw the next 3-2/3 innings. He allowed four runs on two hits, while striking out three batters and walking one.

Camilo was relieved by Jacob Montero, who threw the next 2/3 inning. He allowed one hit.

Montero was relieved by Julian Galindo, who threw the final 2/3 inning. He allowed one run on one hit. He also struck out two batters and walked one.
