Boys place second, girls third at Horton Invitational

The Bluejay harriers were on the road again last week when they traveled to Horton on Thursday, Sept. 27. After two well run races, the boys’ team brought home a second place finish while the girls’ team finished in third.

Boys

The boys’ team placed second overall with a score of 82, while Hiawatha placed first with the score of 46. Other team scores and placing were Jackson Heights, 92, third; Marysville, 105, fourth; Rock Creek, 111, fifth; McLouth, 126, sixth; Valley Falls, 170, seventh; and Cornerstone, 192, eighth.

The Bluejays were led by senior Henry Glynn, who placed fourth overall with a time of 17 minutes, 52 seconds. Sophomore Kaden Dillon placed fifth – just behind Glynn – with a time of 18 minutes, 2 seconds.

Three Bluejays – junior Micah Romines, sophomore Spencer Strahm and freshman Tyrese Bishop – finished just seconds apart from each other in 27th, 28th and 29th place, respectively. Sophomore Darrin Funk completed the race with a 38th place finish.

Girls

The girls’ team ran a tough race as well and brought home a third place finish. They were defeated by Hiawatha in first and Rock Creek in second. Sabetha defeated Jackson Heights in fourth, St. Mary’s in fifth, Rossville in sixth, McLouth in seventh, and Maur Hill in eighth.

Sophomore Hattie Lukert led the Lady Jays throughout the race and finished in second overall with a time of 20 minutes, 19 seconds. Following Lukert were senior Skylar McAfee in 15th place, freshman Jaydn Dorn in 19th, senior Hunter Lowdermilk in 30th, junior Madisen Cochran in 43rd, sophomore Ellen Glynn in 57th, and junior Mahalie Allen in 61st.

Sabetha will host their first meet of the season at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Sabetha Golf Club.
