Wetmore falls to Axtell

After a tough loss the week prior, the Wetmore Cardinals traveled to Axtell on Friday, Sept. 28, looking to bring home a win. Axtell took control of the game early and would win after just one half, 60-0.

The Eagles controlled both sides of the ball throughout the game, Head Coach Rick Schnacker said.

“Axtell took the game to us on both sides of the ball,” he said. “They ran the ball well, we could not defend their passing game, and they were aggressive on defense.”

At the end of one quarter, the score was 46-0. Axtell kept the momentum going and managed to score two more touchdowns in the second quarter to win the game 60-0.

Senior Joel Hutfles tallied six tackles and eight rushes for 14 yards.

Schnacker said after this loss, the team has to focus on moving forward.

“We have to forget about this game and focus on ourselves and improving,” he said. “We need to get back to the basics and get better for the next game.”

Wetmore will welcome Doniphan West to town on Friday, Oct. 5.
