Lady Jays compete in home invite
The Sabetha High School volleyball team hosted the Sabetha Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13, with area teams Nemaha Central, St. Marys, Concordia, ACCHS, Hiawatha, Holton, Marysville, Wamego and Pleasant Ridge.
The Lady Jays went 2-2 in pool play, but it wasn’t enough to advance to tournament play. Sabetha is now 7-6 in league play, and 16-16 overall.
In Sabetha’s pool were Holton, Marysville, Wamego and Pleasant Ridge.
Sabetha lost to Holton in two sets, 21-25 and 24-26, and to Marysville in three sets — losing the first 21-25, winning the second 26-24 and losing the third and with it the match 25-13
Sabetha defeated Pleasant Ridge in two sets, 25-14 and 25-7, and Wamego in three sets — losing the first 28-30, and winning the last two, 25-15 and 25-21.
Advancing out of this pool were Holton and Marysville.
The other pool included Nemaha Central, St. Marys, Concordia, ACCHS and Hiawatha. Advancing out of that pool were Nemaha Central and St. Marys.
Nemaha Central won the tournament, defeating Marysville in the semi-final round and Holton in the championship.
St. Marys took third place, falling to Holton in the semi-final round and defeating Marysville in the final.
