Sabetha Community Hospital Guild 10.15.18
Submitted by Kathie Tramp
The Sabetha Community Hospital Guild met at noon Monday, Oct. 15, in the EMS building. After a delicious lunch, made by the hospital kitchen personnel, President Teresa Deckinger opened the meeting by introducing our guest speaker DeAnn Bennett, who heads up the x-ray department at the hospital.
Bennett spoke with us regarding Breast Cancer Awareness month, which is October. She went on to tell us that our hospital has one of the best systems available in Digital Mammography. Bennett told us that an average of one in eight women will be affected in their lifetime by breast cancer. It is the second most common cause of cancer related deaths in women. We have two technicians in the hospital that take mammograms. She encouraged each of us to be sure and get our mammograms every year. Medicare and most insurances will pay for the cost of mammograms yearly.
After the minutes and treasurer’s report were given, Lyla Edelman reminded the 21 members present that the next Bloodmobile will be held here on Tuesday, Nov. 20. Those donating will each receive a Kansas City Chiefs t-shirt.
The Hospital Guild’s Tea will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at NorthRidge Church. Lori Menold, diabetic counselor, will speak about Diabetes: the Silent Disease. Lunch will be served and entertainment will be by Virginia Mars, offering a variety of piano numbers.
We are reminded that the election of officers will take place at the November meeting. Lora Key, hospital administrator, addressed the group and encouraged all to get their flu shots and also gave an update on the Health and Wellness Center.
