Local auxiliary is accepting donations for VA hospital

Submitted by Kay Garber

The Sabetha American Legion Auxiliary is collecting items for the Veterans Christmas gift shop located at the VA Hospital in Topeka. This shop allows veterans who are residents at the Hospital the opportunity to select Christmas gifts for loved ones. The items can be brought to the Sabetha Community Building, 1116 Main, during normal working hours (8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday)between Nov. 5 and Nov. 13.

Gifts that are most readily accepted are: jewelry, box of makeup, night gowns, sweat shirts, electronics (cameras, curling irons, etc.) small tools, towel sets, flannel shirts, throws, stuffed animals, dolls and toys. Gifts for men and teenagers are especially needed. Sizes large through 3X are needed for both men and women. Please no knitted hats, gloves, scarves, shoes or flip flops.

Please do not bring used articles as everything in the shop must be new. Please ensure clothing items are marked for size and the price of each item must be available for record keeping. If you desire acknowledgment for your gifts, please leave your name and address.

These gifts will be selected by VA hospital patients to give to their loved ones (parents, spouse, children). When selecting gifts to be sent, ask yourself, “Is this something I would give to my own family?”

If you have questions, please call Kay Garber at 785-285-1611.
