Local physical therapists attend certification class at Netawaka

Submitted by Kristel Bontrager
Thirty-one physical therapists and physical therapist assistants from across the United States gathered at the Netawaka Fitness Center for The Academy of Aquatic Physical Therapy certification class Oct. 12-14. Each participant received a certificate in aquatic physical therapy clinical competency, CAPTCC. Participants learned aquatic exercise, manual treatment and positional changes in the water that will benefit their patients.
The CAPTCC provides PTs and PTAs with a comprehensive study of the fundamental knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to provide safe evidence-based patient care using the aquatic environment. Participants in the course completed both written and practical skills tests upon completion of the program. This is the only certificate program sponsored by a component of the APTA specifically designed for the aquatic physical therapy professional.
Typically the class is held in big cities such as Chicago or Pasadena, but Netawaka was a new location on their list. The next class will be held in Boston, Ma. Some traveled as far as New York, Virginia and Florida to complete their certification. One participant traveled from British Columbia as well.
Among the 31 participants were three local therapists from Physical and Respiratory Therapy Services, LLC — Brian Voos, PT, Angela Compton, PTA, and Kristel Bontrager PTA. All three work in the PRTS, LLC outpatient clinic in the Netawaka Fitness Center and are excited to use new techniques and ideas with patients.
