Cardinals compete at Nemaha Central

The Wetmore High School track and field teams traveled to Nemaha Central to compete on Tuesday, April 13. The boys’ team placed seventh with a score of 27. The girls’ team placed eighth with a score of 7.

Girls

Other teams competing on the girls’ side and their places and scores were Nemaha Central, first, 156; Pawnee City, second, 146; Valley Heights, third, 79; Onaga, fourth, 45; Centralia, fifth, 39; Axtell, sixth, 32; and Troy, seventh, 27.

For the Lady Cardinals, junior Kenzie Strathman led the way with a fourth-place finish in javelin. Her throw was 89 feet, 11.5 inches. Senior Reagan Osterhaus placed fifth in discus with a throw of 94 feet, 5 inches. For running events, freshman Rylie Nichols placed sixth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 15:44.35.

BOYS

Other boys’ teams and their places and scores were Nemaha Central, first, 162.5; Pawnee City, second, 105; Centralia, third, 95; Axtell, fourth, 61; Valley Heights, fifth, 60; Onaga, sixth, 27.5; and Troy, eighth, 11.

In the boys’ competition, junior Eric Bloom finished second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:34.02. Bloom was followed by junior Colby Hanzlicek, who finished in third, with a time of 11: 43.15.

Bloom also was a member of the 4×800-meter relay team that finished fourth with a time of 9:35.96. The team consisted of Bloom, sophomore Jacob Carls, and seniors Austin Smith and Kael McQueen.

McQueen finished fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.22.

In the triple jump, Carls finished fourth with a jump of 38 feet, 4.25 inches. Bloom finished sixth with a jump of 38 feet, 2.75 inches.

The track teams traveled to Jackson Heights on Tuesday, April 13. Theses results were not available at The Herald’s press time.
