Lierz brothers advance to State

Two Bluejay golfers – Caden and Riley Lierz – have qualified for the 3A State Tournament after placing in the Regional Golf meet on Monday, May 17, in Seneca.

In the Seneca Regional, Sabetha was joined by Silver Lake, Jeff West, Nemaha Central, St. Marys and Marysville.

Overall, Sabetha received third place with a score of 377. Nemaha Central received first with 356, Jeff West placed second with 358, Marysville placed fourth with 385, Silver Lake placed fifth with 392 and St. Marys placed sixth with 435.

Leading the Bluejays and placing third overall was senior Riley Lierz with a score of 83. Following him was senior Caden Lierz tying for 11th place with 93, freshman Cullen Wikle tying for 17th place with 97, freshman Dalton Rokey in 23rd place with 104, freshman Cole Grimes tying for 27th place with 110 and senior Chad Russell tying for 29th place with a score of 112.

Qualifying for State, the Lierz brothers will travel to Hesston to play in the KSHSAA 3A Boys State Golf Championship on May 24 and 25.

“Riley and Caden earning a trip is a great way to accumulate a career where they have been on Two League, Two Regional and Two State Championship teams,” said Head Coach Scott Burger. “They have competed hard all year and look forward to competing at the Class 3A State Championship in Hesston.”
