Club News: Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International
The Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met on Wednesday, May 26, at the Morrill Public Library in Hiawatha. Hostesses were Karen Benson and Ruth Randall. Elizabeth Libel Bauerle of the Morrill Library gave an informative tour of the updates to its facility, as well as some of the upcoming events to be held this summer.
Betty Gleason, Chapter President, opened the business meeting. The Chapter Collect was led by Carol Bishop and Joyce Fee took roll call. Members answered roll by naming a favorite book. Barbara Chadwell won the door prize.
Those attending were Fee of Morrill; Lucille Pennel, Sue Miller, Ardis Houston and Benson, all of Hiawatha; Chadwell of Fairview; Bishop of Axtell; and Gleason and Mary Jane Fleming, both of Seneca.
A memorial for Alpha Kappa member Helen Hageman was given by Lucille Pennel. Hageman had been an educator in Ulysess for many years and passed away last year. She exhibited the DKG Society attributes of friendship, loyalty and helpfulness toward everyone.
Members then honored the founders that organized the DKG Society of women educators on May 11, 1929, in Austin, Texas, with a match game prepared by Gleason. The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at a location to be determined later.
