Obituary: Edwin Epple
Edwin Earl Epple, 86, of Sabetha, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.
Edwin was born on Nov. 23, 1934, the son of Erich Epple and Freda (Wenger) Epple on the family farm south of Sabetha. He was one of five children born to this union.
He attended Victory Country School until the eighth grade. Edwin started helping on the family farm until he entered the United States Army on Feb. 17, 1956. After he was discharged from the Army on Feb. 7, 1968, he returned home to farm with his brothers on the family farm. He worked for Wenger Manufacturing as a night foreman for several years.
Edwin was united in marriage to Lola Helpingstine on Nov. 2, 1968. Edwin was a member of the United Brethren Church in Sabetha, and the Gideon’s International.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lila Epple; brothers, Clyde and Gale Epple; and granddaughter, Jo Boyce.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Lola Epple of Sabetha; two daughters, Dawn Engels of BC Canada and Patricia (Scott) Sutherland of West Des Moines, Iowa; two sons, Steve (Tammy) Epple of Sabetha and Tim (Chris) Epple of Grimes, Iowa; sister, Evelyn (Jim) Meacham of Arizona; sister-in-law, Karla Epple of Sabetha; 14 grandchildren, Christie (Brian) Strahm, Lisa (Matt) Roudybush, Eric Peterson, Erin (Curtis) Fraser, Shane (Chrystina) Peterson, Phillip (Brenda) Holt, Melissa Millsap (Keith Smith), Chris (Sune’) Holt, Zach Epple, Britni Epple, Ryan (Jessi) Lane, Kavon Epple, Lauren (Dustin) Schrader and Tanner Epple; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2021, at the Sabetha Cemetery, with a meal to follow at the Crossroads Wesleyan Church in Sabetha. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon’s International, sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, KS 66534.
