Raptors open season with 8-0 record

The 2021 Sabetha Raptor 19 & under baseball season has gotten underway and the team has jumped out to a great start by going 8-0 after facing four opponents. The Raptors have swept the doubleheader match-ups against Doniphan County, Topeka Senators, Hiawatha and Valley Falls.

Game One Doniphan County

Doniphan County traveled to Somerset Park on Sunday, May 30, for a pair of games against the home town Sabetha Raptors. The Raptors defeated the visitors, 9-5, in their first game of the season. The Raptors scored nine runs on six hits with a four run fourth inning propelling them to victory. Josh Herrmann and Braden Argabright led the hitting attack with two hits apiece with Argabright picking up three RBIs. The Raptors were aided by four errors by Doniphan County.

Game Two Doniphan County

In the nightcap contest, the Raptors defeated Doniphan County, 7-1. The Raptors had five hits and once again jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after three innings. Will Ulrich, Marcus Bauman, Jonathan Renyer, Darrin Funk and Herrmann each had an RBI for the Raptors. Doniphan County walked five batters and committed two errors in the loss.

Game One Topeka Senators

The Topeka Senators visited Somerset Park on Tuesday, June 1, for doubleheader action and the Raptors totally dominated the visitors in both games. In the opening contest, the Raptors held the Senators scoreless and only allowed one hit while scoring eight runs on six hits on their way to an 8-0 shutout. The Raptors exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead. The Raptor hitting attack was led by Bauman who went two for four at the plate with a pair of RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

Game Two Topeka Senators

In the nightcap contest, the Raptors pounded out 15 hits and defeated the Senators, 14-4, after four innings. The Raptors exploded for 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning to end the contest early. Renyer went three for three at the plate with one RBI to lead the Raptors. Bauman, Funk, Cooper Bradbury and Matthew Garber each collected a pair of hits in the contest. Herrmann, Bradbury and Aiden Lang knocked in a pair of runs each in the blowout victory.

Game One Hiawatha

The Raptors hit the road for the first time this season with a Wednesday, June 2, trip to Hiawatha for a pair of games. In the opening contest, the Raptors continued to hit the ball well by pounding out six hits on their way to a 9-1 win. The Raptors had a big fourth inning with six runners crossing the plate to take a commanding 9-0 lead. Bradbury and Christian McAfee led the Raptors with two hits apiece. Renyer, Herrmann, Garber, Lang and McAfee each knocked in a run for the Raptors.

Game Two Hiawatha

In the nightcap, the Raptors defeated Hiawatha, 11-5, and once again were red hot at the plate. The Raptors collected 11 hits and used a six run first inning to take the early lead they would not relinquish. Herrmann had three hits with two RBIs and Funk had a pair of hits to lead the Raptors. Garber had three RBIs to lead the Raptors in that department.

Game One Valley Falls

On Sunday, June 6, the Raptors traveled to Valley Falls for a pair of games. In the opening contest, the Raptors collected eight hits and scored 10 runs on their path to a 10-7 win. Funk came up big for the Raptors by going three for four at the plate with three RBIs. Valley Falls committed eight errors in the contest.

Game Two Valley Falls

In the nightcap, the Raptors held off Valley Falls, 5-4. The Raptors had seven hits with Bauman, Shane Frey and Bradbury each collecting a pair of hits. Bradbury had two RBIs in the game.
