Brown County Fair to begin next week
The Brown County Free Fair officially is slated for Thursday through Friday, July 8 through 16.
Special attractions and entertainment for the fair include a country music show by Tim Strathman, a parade, Fair Fun Run, commercial booths and exhibits, and a Pedal Power Tractor Pull.
The Pedal Power Tractor Pull will begin at 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 13. Registration begins at 7:30 p.m., and is open to all boys and girls through 11 years old. Children must be registered by their parents.
The country music show by Tim Strathman will be offered at 8 p.m., Thursday, July 15, at the cement platform at the Horton Fairgrounds. In case of inclement weather, the show will be moved to the Horton Civil Center.
A Fair Fun Run will be held at 7 a.m. Saturday, July 10. The parade will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 13.
Fair events are as follows. Events take place at the Horton Fairgrounds or Horton Community Building, unless otherwise noted.
Thursday, July 8: 8 a.m., Blue Building Project Drop-off starts; Consultation Judging for foods, arts and crafts, place setting, clothing, woodworking, space tech and misc.; 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., drop off for plant and photography; 5-7 p.m., food sale; 6-7 p.m., photo and plant science judge discussion period.
Friday, July 9: 8 a.m., dog show on the cement platform; 2 p.m., pet show on the cement platform; 4 p.m., fashion revue judging; 7 p.m., public fashion revue and food auction.
Saturday, July 10: 7 a.m., Fair Fun Run, Horton Cross Country Team; 10 a.m., Livestock Barn Setup.
Sunday, July 11: 10 a.m., Horse Show, Babcock Arena in Hiawatha.
Monday, July 12: 6 p.m., Livestock entered; 6-7 p.m., enter Rabbits and Poultry; 7 p.m., Sheep and Meat Goat Weigh-in; 7:30 p.m., Beef Weigh-in; 8 p.m., Swine Weigh-in.
Tuesday, July 13: 7:30 a.m., biscuits and gravy by the Brown County Farm Bureau; 8 a.m., Rabbit Showmanship; 8:30 a.m., Rabbit Show; 9 a.m., Poultry Show; 10 a.m. to noon, Eddie Grathwohl Memorial Beef Clinic; noon, Swine Exhibitors meeting; 1 p.m., Meat and Dairy Goat Show; afternoon, free bottle water from First Option Bank; 3 p.m., Bucket Calf Exhibitors meeting; 6 p.m., parade; 6-9 p.m., face painting and pony rides; 7-9 p.m., KNZA Remote Broadcast; 7:30 p.m., Pedal Power Tractor Pull registration; 8 p.m., Pedal Power Tractor Pull.
Wednesday, July 14: 7 a.m., breakfast by the Everest 4-Leaf Clovers Club; 8 a.m., Swine Show; 11:30 a.m., free hot dog lunch from Union State Bank; 1-3 p.m., photography, Crops and Weeds Judging Contest, and 4-H presentations; afternoon, free bottled water from Bank of Blue Valley; 3:30 p.m., Bucket Calf Interviews; 4:30 p.m., Bucket Calf Show; 5:30 p.m., Beef and Dairy Show; 6-9 p.m., bounce house, mechanical bull and face painting.
Thursday, July 15: 7:30-9 a.m., breakfast by the Willis All-Stars Club; 8 a.m. Sheep and Shepherd’s Lead Show; 11:30 a.m., smoked lamb by GN Bank and sheep families; 12:30 p.m., Livestock Judging Contest; 1 p.m., Sup. need to turn in Livestock Sale Order; 1:30 p.m., Round Robin practice; 2:30 p.m., Round Robin Showmanship Contest; 3 p.m., Special Awards Committee meeting; 6 p.m. Holle’s Dance Studio on the cement platform; 6-9 p.m., bounce house, mechanical bull, rock wall and face painting; 8 p.m., free entertainment from the Tim Strathman Band; 8-10 p.m., All Blue Building Exhibits released, all items need picked up by 10 p.m.; 9 p.m., Livestock Exhibits released.
Friday, July 16: all day, Blue Building closed for wedding; 10 a.m., Awards Program on the cement platform; 11:30 a.m., Livestock Sale Setup; 5:30 p.m., meal by the Bake Shop, and pop and water sale by Frontier Farm Credit, all proceeds go to 4-H Council; 6 p.m., Awards Program at the Livestock Arena; 6:30 p.m., Livestock Sale.
