Independence Day activities are scheduled in area communities
It’s time to celebrate America’s 244th birthday – Independence Day. Fireworks, baseball, food and fun will highlight the birthday celebrations in Sabetha and area communities.
Within Sabetha city limits, fireworks are allowed from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. June 27 through July 3, and from 8 a.m. until midnight on July 4. Fireworks cannot be discharged on city streets or alleys, or in the downtown business district.
In addition to personal celebrations, area residents can enjoy celebrations Saturday, July 3, at Sabetha, and Sunday, July 4, at Bern.
In Sabetha on Saturday, July 3, the annual Raptors’ Fireworks Game will be at the Wilbur Bestwick Field. At 6:30 p.m., attendees can enjoy the Sabetha Bravos Homerun Derby. At 8 p.m., the Sabetha Raptors will play. Following the Raptors’ game will be a slowpitch softball game.
Enjoy a night of ball and open concessions stand, followed by front row seat for the Sabetha Fireworks Show.
The Sabetha Fireworks Show, organized and executed by the Sabetha Fire Department, will begin at 10 p.m.
On Sunday, July 4, the annual 4th of July Celebration in Bern will begin with a 5K race beginning and ending at the Bern City Park. Registration begins at 7 a.m., and the race starts at 8 a.m.
Also that morning, a pancake feed will be held at the Bern Community Center from 8 to 10 a.m.
Festivities kick into high gear at 6 p.m. at the Bern Ballfields. Attendees can enjoy inflatables, kettle corn, snow cones, root beer floats, homemade pie and ice cream. Food trucks also will be available from 5 to 10 p.m. There will be something for everyone’s taste buds including Mexican, American, philly cheesesteaks and barbecue.
