Sabetha Fire Department Report

At 12:53 p.m. Monday, July 12, the Sabetha Fire Department (SFD) responded to a call that a gas line had been cut into at Wenger Manufacturing located in the 700 Block of Main Street. Wenger Manufacturing was having concrete work done by Bottorff Construction out of Atchison, when Bottorff uncovered what appeared to be an abandoned gas line. When the two-inch gas line was cut into, Bottorff found it to be an active gas line. Immediately, Wenger Manufacturing evacuated the entire building. As a precautionary measure, the SFD shut down all Main Street traffic from Sixth to Ninth streets. The SFD served standby as they waited for Kansas Gas Service to arrive to plug the line. The SFD was on scene until 3:28 p.m. They responded with four trucks and 14 firefighters. The SFD was assisted by Sabetha EMS, City of Sabetha – who shut off the power to Wenger Manufacturing – and Nemaha County Emergency Management. There were no injuries reported.
