Law Enforcement Report: Nemaha County Sheriff
Tory T. Schmidgall, 20, of Sabetha was arrested on July 11 by the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office (NMSO) for the offenses of criminal discharge of a firearm, criminal damage to property and transporting an open container. This was a result of a call of shots fired in the area of 168th Road and S Road. Schmidgall was released on July 11 on a $1,125 bond with a court date of Aug. 10 at 9:30 a.m.
Jacob Clary, 34, of Hiawatha was arrested on July 13 by the Sabetha Police Department (PD) on a Sabetha municipal warrant for failure to appear. Clary was released on July 14 on a $1,000 own recognizance bond. Court is set for July 22 at 4 p.m.
On July 9, the NMSO received a report of identity theft from a Nemaha County resident. An unknown person had opened an account with their personal information. No monetary loss was reported.
On July 10, a 2003 Chevrolet truck was stolen from 253 Nemaha Street in Baileyville. The vehicle was later located in Kearney, Neb. An abandoned 2000 Chevrolet S10 pickup was located on Highland Community College property not far from the location the 2003 Chevrolet was stolen from. This vehicle was identified as having been reported stolen from Franklin, Neb. It was placed into impound.
At 4:43 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, William McGinnis, 41, of Sabetha was traveling eastbound on 184th Road, 150 feet west of 180th Road, when he struck a deer. McGinnis was driving a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado. More than $1,000 in damage was estimated.
At 4:27 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, Dylon J. Barrett, 31, of Oneida, was traveling southbound on Monroe Street in Oneida, just south of Madison, when he left the roadway due to excessive speed and struck a tree line. Barrett and his two passengers — Michael Vogel, 31, of Sabetha and Carey Penrod, 31, of Oneida — all were transported to hospitals by EMS. Barrett was driving a 2008 Saturn Aura. More than $1,000 in damage was estimated.
At approximately 10 p.m. Friday, July 9, Nicholas D. Russo, 29, of Centralia was traveling eastbound on State Highway 9, 1/2 mile west of E Road, when he struck a deer. He was driving a 2013 Ford F150 truck. More than $1,000 in damage was estimated.
At 3 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, Abbigail Shumaker, 18, of Wetmore was traveling southbound on Kansas Highway 63, 0.15 mile south of Kansas Highway 63, when she struck a deer. Shumaker was driving a 2008 Pontiac G5. More than $1,000 in damage was estimated.
On Wednesday, July 14, Marcus E. Henninger, 28, of Falls City, Neb., was traveling westbound on 216th Road, approximately 1/4 mile east of T Road, when he struck a raccoon. He was driving a 2007 Chevrolet 4-door. More than $1,000 in damage was estimated.
