Sabetha sees decrease in sales tax distributions

Sabetha’s sales tax distributions are below last year’s distributions for August. This is according to the August County/City Local Sales Tax Distribution Report released by the Kansas Department of Revenue.

The state issues these distributions two months after collection, so the August distribution is a reflection of June 2021 sales.

Sabetha saw a decreased sales tax distributions in the month of August alone — with distributions of $40,267.38, a 16.1 percent decrease from the $48,016.86 distributed in August 2020. Sabetha’s local sales tax rate is 1 percent.

Fiscal year to date — from August 2020 to August 2021, compared with distributions in the same timeframe the previous year — Sabetha is up 7.4 percent.

With a sales tax rate of 1.5 percent, Hiawatha’s distributions went down 11.8 percent — from $107,860.87 in August 2020 to $95,096.27 in August 2021. Fiscal year to date, Hiawatha’s distributions are up 0.3 percent.

Holton’s distributions are up 2.3 percent, from $65,966.94 in August 2020 to $67,475.19 in August 2021. Holton’s local sales tax rate is 0.75 percent. Fiscal year to date, Holton’s distributions are up 13.2 percent.

With a local sales tax rate of 1 percent, Seneca’s distributions are down 0.2 percent, from $56,526.22 in August 2020 to $56,398.93 in August 2021. Fiscal year to date, Seneca’s distributions are up 14.1 percent.

County

Brown, Jackson and Nemaha counties all saw a decrease in sales tax distributions for August.

Nemaha County’s distributions went down 17.4 percent, from $210,427.51 in August 2020 to $173,723.01 in August 2021. Nemaha County has a local sales tax rate of 1 percent. Fiscal year to date, Nemaha County’s distributions are up 2.3 percent.

Brown County, with a local sales tax rate of 1 percent, saw a 12.5 percent decrease — from $132,235.17 in August 2020 to $115,738.24 in August 2021. Fiscal year to date, Brown County’s distributions are up 4.1 percent.

Jackson County, with a local sales tax rate of 1.4 percent, saw a 5.4 percent decrease — from $189,940.86 in August 2020 to $179,601.59 in August 2021. Fiscal year to date, Jackson County’s distributions are up 12.2 percent.

State

Statewide, city and county distribution totals were up 0.5 percent in August. Distributions totaled $92,637,382.75 in August 2021, up from the $92,173,269.85 distributed in August 2020. Fiscal year to date, statewide distributions are up 9 percent.
