Boys place second, Hanzlicek takes first at Centralia

The Wetmore boys cross country team took second at Centralia on Saturday, Sept. 2, against six area schools. The Cardinals final score was 38 topped only by Jefferson County North who took first with a score of 21. Other teams’ placings and scores were Pike Valley, third, 57; Axtell, fourth, 71; Frankfort, fifth, 88; Horton, sixth, 100; and Wabaunsee, seventh, 117.

Colby Hanzicek earned first place at the meet on Saturday, with a time of 17 minutes, 34 seconds, outrunning Grady Buessing of Axtell by four seconds. He was followed by his team mates, Braden Henry in seventh with a time of 19 minutes, 9 seconds. Eric Bloom came in behind Henry in eighth with a time of 19 minutes, 16 seconds. Jacob Carls finished in 27th with a time of 20 minutes, 40 seconds. Brayden McQueen finished in 36th with a time of 21 minutes, 11 seconds. Kurt Shumaker finished in 64th with a time of 26 minutes, 11 seconds. 

The Cardinals will travel to Leonardville on Saturday, Oct. 9, for their next meet.
