Wetmore harriers compete at Sabetha
On Thursday, Oct. 7, the Wetmore High School Cardinals traveled to compete in the cross country meet at Sabetha. Players from outside teams were from Baldwin, St. Mary’s Academy, Jackson Heights, Doniphan West, St. Marys, Wamego, Atchison County, Horton, Wetmore, Marysville, Jefferson West, Nemaha Central, Kickapoo Nation, Royal Valley and Riverside.
Overall, the Wetmore boys placed seventh with a score of 194. Other teams’ placings and their scores were Wamego, first, 33; Marysville, second, 77; Royal Valley, third, 102; Sabetha, fourth, 108; St. Mary’s Academy, fifth, 150; Baldwin, sixth, 179; Jackson Heights, eighth, 219; St. Mary’s, ninth, 222; Nemaha Central, 10th, 240; Horton, 11th, 245; and Jefferson West, 12th, 283.
Leading the Cardinals was senior Colby Hanzlicek, who placed 12th with a time of 18 minutes, 29 seconds. He was followed by senior Braden Henry in 31st with a time of 19 minutes, 39 seconds. Senior Eric Bloom followed with 36th place with a time of 20 minutes, 9 seconds. Junior Jacob Carls finished in 57th place with a time of 21 minutes, 26 seconds. Sophomore Brayden McQueen finished in 70th place with a time of 22 minutes, 50 seconds. Junior Kurt Shumaker finished in 83rd with a time of 26 minutes, 40 seconds.
The Cardinals will travel to Centralia on Thursday, Oct. 14, for their Twin Valley League meet.
