Cardinal boys claim Twin Valley League Championship

The Wetmore Cross Country team competed in the Twin Valley League (TVL) championship race on Thursday, Oct. 14 in Centralia. The boys’ team would place first and claim the TVL Championship.

Boys

The boys’ team finished in first place overall with a score of 16 to claim the Twin Valley League championship. Other teams and their scores were Axtell, second, 38; Frankfort, third, 38; and Onaga, fourth, 51.

Five Cardinal boys competed in the race, with three finishing in the top five and receiving medals. Senior Colby Hanzlicek led the Wetmore team and finished in first place overall with a time of 17 minutes, 31.47 seconds. Senior Eric Bloom finished in third with a time of 19 minutes, 5.88 seconds. Senior Braden Henry finished in fifth place with a time of 19 minutes,13.84 seconds. Junior Jacob Carls completed the race in 20 minutes, 17.97 seconds for a 13th place finish. Sophomore Brayden McQueen finished the race in 21st place with a time of 21 minutes, 26.5 seconds.

Girls

Junior Kaitlyn Claycamp was the lone girl competing in the meet for Wetmore. She finished the race in 32nd place with a time of 29 minutes, 41 seconds.

The Cardinals will compete in Regional competition on Saturday, Oct. 23, in Centralia.
