Lady Jays place third at home tournament

The Sabetha Lady Jays were looking for a tournament championship when they hosted their tournament on Saturday, Oct. 16. After multiple games, Sabetha would defeat Marysville to win third place overall. Hiawatha would take first, and Nemaha Central would take second.

“There is a lot positive to celebrate from this tournament,” said Head Coach Abby Stueve. “We were ranked sixth going into the tournament, fourth going into the bracket play and finished third overall. Secondly, we came out on top of a team [Marysville] that we previously lost to earlier in the tournament. Though we went 3-3 on the whole day, it was important to take pride in our accomplishments and our final goal on the day. In the end, the girls played their hardest in their last game and I was very proud of their play. In addition to the team’s winnings, Emily Krebs hit 2,000 career assists, which is a feat few accomplish in their volleyball careers.”

Multiple teams were present for the tournament with the day starting off in pool play. Teams competing in Pool A were Hiawatha, Wamego and Concordia. Teams competing in Pool B were Nemaha Central, Sabetha and St. Marys. Teams competing in Pool C were Jackson Heights, Marysville and Holton.
