Bus driver appreciation
I never rode on a school bus route as a child, but I have sent my own children to school on a USD 113 school bus. My confidence in the drivers’ ability to keep my kids safe was a comfort. October 20, 2021, was Bus Driver Appreciation Day. I appreciate and respect the drivers of USD 113. They provide our children and parents with a valuable service.
All USD 113 drivers are trained in first aid, including CPR. Part of their licensing process includes periodic state-sanctioned safe driving lessons. Drivers also participate in frequent safety meetings. They are cleared by a medical doctor for any health issues that could put students at risk. Bus drivers routinely conduct emergency drills that include the practice of evacuation procedures.
For many of our students, the bus driver is the first school-related person that our kids see. He or she make a difference on a daily basis in the educational experience for our children.
Drivers for buses are very difficult to find. We are continuously looking for route and relief drivers. We currently have a route driver position available for the Wetmore area. If you are interested in making a daily difference for our kids, please contact the USD 113 district office.
When you see that yellow bus coming down the road, please set aside your busyness and take a moment to appreciate the importance of the bus driver to the lives of our kids. No other position has the tremendous responsibility for student safety than the drivers of our buses. On a daily basis, they are charged with the safe transportation of the most precious cargo that exists, our children.
