Tyrese Bishop places 16th overall, medals at State Championship

The girls’ team and two boys competed at the 3A State Cross Country meet held Saturday, Oct. 30, at Wamego. 

Senior Tyrese Bishop medaled in 16th place in the boys’ race and as a team, the Bluejay girls placed eighth. 

“Wamego is quite the course, hills everywhere! Our kids ran well this last Saturday, and I am proud of them,” said Head Coach Doug Leiker.

Bishop and Kalvin Evans represented the Bluejay boys at State. Bishop earned 16th place overall and sophomore Kalvin Evans ended the season in 32nd place.

Sophomore Leah Lukert led the girls on Saturday earning 21st place, followed by freshman Laura Metzger in 28th. Other Lady Jays competing and their placings were freshman Lauren Bowles, 64th; Ellyannah Clinton, 74th; sophomore Emerson Montgomery, 93rd; and senior Jadyn Dorn, 97th. Junior Mary Lukert did not finish the race. 

“They have worked very hard and have had great attitudes throughout the season,” Leiker said. “The season went so fast and the reason it went so fast is because I got to work with great kids! Way to go Bluejay harriers.”
