Thank You Board of Education Members!

Occasionally, when I was helping my dad (actually Dad was helping Mom by keeping me busy), we would stop by the “coffee shop.” Dad was a veterinarian, so the latest adventures with animals was often a topic of conversation. He also served on the local school board. That was also a frequent topic of conversation. I learned early on that people are passionate and opinionated when it comes to schools. I also learned that being a board of education member meant a lot more than attending one meeting a month.

The month of January is School Board Recognition Month. I want to take this opportunity to thank the USD 113, Prairie Hills Board of Education members for their service. I also want to thank their families for sharing each of them to help improve the education that we offer our children.

As I think of the time and effort that it takes to be a Board of Education member, I am humbled by the amount of service that is required. Many hours are dedicated that are outside of the formal meeting time. I am appreciative of the amount of time preparing for meetings that is provided by our members.

One of the strengths of our district is that we operate from an ethical foundation. This begins with the Board of Education. I am confident that the members of our Board of Education operate in good faith and with positive intentions. They have the best interest of our students at heart.

Many individuals are unaware that a school board position is an unpaid volunteer position. In fact, by becoming a board of education member, individuals are unable to be hired for any position within the district.

Thank you members of the USD 113, Prairie Hills Board of Education for your service to the children of our district! Through your wisdom and leadership we will continue to provide a solid education for our students! Thank you for your ability to work with complex issues, your patience and your willingness to make a difference in the lives of our children!
