Lawrence closes out girls wrestling season

Freshman 126-pound Nakita Lawrence closed out her 2021-22 season with three matches at the 2022 KSHSAA Girls 4-1A State Championship Tournament in Salina on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 23-24.

Lawrence entered the prestigious tournament with an impressive 25-10 record. In her first match of the tournament, Lawrence matched up against Amanda Jaeger of Colby, who had a 27-7 record. Jaeger pinned Lawrence in the first period to send her to the consolation side of the bracket.

Lawrence faced Bella Wernli of El Dorado, who had a 24-12 record. Lawrence pinned Wernli in the second period to move into the consolation cross bracketing round against Jill High of Augusta, who had a 27-3 record. High pinned Lawrence in the first period to end her season.

Lawrence capped off her season with one victory at the state tournament and a 26-12 record.
