Boys’ team places fifth at Nemaha Central

The Wetmore Cardinals hit the road on Tuesday, April 12, to compete in the Nemaha Central track and field invitational. The boys’ team placed fifth overall and the girls’ team placed eighth.

Boys

The Cardinals placed fifth with a score of 45. Other teams’ placings and scores are as follows: Pawnee City, first, 122; Nemaha Central, second, 117.5; Axtell, third, 90; Valley Heights, fourth, 73; Onaga, sixth, 40; Centralia, seventh, 35.5; Troy, eighth, 18; and Holton, ninth, 13.

Junior Jacob Carls was the sole Cardinal coming away with a first-place finish for the day. He placed first in the triple jump with a jump of 48 feet, 8.5 inches.

Senior Eric Bloom placed second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 19.05 seconds. Senior Colby Hanzlice placed second in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11 minutes, 44.74 seconds.

Senior Storm Hackler earned a second-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 132 feet, 5 inches.

The Lady Cardinals placed eighth with a score of 10. Other teams’ placings and scores are as follows: Nemaha Central, first, 173; Valley Heights, second, 100; Centralia, third, 86; Pawnee City, fourth, 78.5; Axtell, fifth, 63.5; Troy, sixth, 24; and Onaga, seventh, 12.

Junior Lani Wiggli was the only girl placing at the meet. She placed first in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6 minutes, 31.88 seconds.

The Cardinals competed in the Jackson Heights Invitational on Tuesday, April 19. These results were not available at The Herald’s press time.
