Obituary: Nicholas Williams

Nicholas Williams, 43, of Leawood, passed away Thursday, April 28.
He attended Blue Valley Schools and the University of Kansas. He appreciated spending time with his family, his dog, Matrix, and his Macaw, Kiko, who had been his companion of 28 years.
When Nicholas was only six years of age, his sister, Lindsey, who was 3-1/2, died following open-heart surgery. He had never known life without his sister, and he never overcame the void left in his life when she died.
When in college, Nicholas began to struggle with mental health issues. These issues plagued him throughout his adult life and created a pain that he simply could not rise above. On Thursday, his pain ended, when Nicholas joined his sister, Lindsey Beth, and the rest of his family in the Kingdom of Heaven. Having waited nearly 40 years, he was finally reunited with those who had made him whole so early in life. He leaves, however, a massive wake of grief in that path where we all loved and supported him.
Nicholas is preceded in death by his sister, Lindsey Beth; his maternal grandparents; his cousin, Matthew Ayo; and his paternal grandparents, Donald and Bernie Williams, formerly of Sabetha.
He is survived by his parents, Dr. Jim and Lois; a sister, Dr. Taylor (Ryan) Inman, and their two children, whom Nicholas adored – Wyatt and Ruby. He is also survived by a brother, Jordan (Laura) Williams; and his aunts, Hope Williams and Mary Dawn (Mark) Ayo. Hope’s children, Martha Rogers and Arin Knight, survive as well.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to Burge Bird Rescue Services or to Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, KS 66224, or the Nicholas Williams Instrumental Music Fund in care of Dr. Craig Theis.
At 2 p.m. Thursday, May 5, a celebration of Nicholas’s life will be held at The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection. Visitation will follow the service in the narthex.
