Rokey and Scoby compete at State Golf Tournament

Sophomore Dalton Rokey and freshman Roman Scoby competed at the Class 3A KSHSAA State Golf Tournament on Monday, May 23, held at the Salina Municipal Golf Course in Salina.

Rokey and Scoby qualified for the prestigious state golf tournament by qualifying at last week’s regional competition held at Village Greens Golf Course in Meriden, Kan. The state tournament is a two-day tournament that requires a qualifying score in the first round in order to compete in the second day’s action.

Scoby, turning in one of his better performances of the year, shot an opening day score of 89, but failed to make the cut for the second day. Rokey, in his first state tournament appearance, turned in a score of 95 and also failed to make the cut for the second day. The two Jay golfers played well on a tough and long golf course.

“I was real happy with their composure,” said Head Coach Scott Burger. “When one plays in your first state tournament, it is very common to be very nervous. They enjoyed the moment, handled the pressure and represented our school in a positive manner.”
