Ten Bluejays head to State in six different events
The Sabetha Bluejay track team competed at 3A Regionals on Friday, May 20, at Royal Valley. Both the boys and girls put forth a great effort to be able to send six girls and four boys to the state championship meet in Wichita next weekend.
“We had a good regional meet and competed about as well as we could,” said Head Coach David Remmers. “We are taking 10 different athletes in six different events. As always, we are disappointed we can’t take everyone that competed in that meet, but the level of competition we faced will help prepare those that are going with what they will face in Wichita. Our kids performed very well, and some that got a personal record, didn’t qualify. We told them that when the meet was over and they got back on the bus, to not have any regrets about how they performed. I believe they did that.”
BOYS
The 4×800 relay team had a great performance that earned them a fourth-place state bid with a time of eight minutes, 32 seconds. Included in that race were Nate Menold, Kalvin Evans, Brody Deters and Tyrese Bishop. Freshman Tyse Frazee also will go to state as an alternate for the 4×800 relay team.
Also, Bishop will be competing in a second event – the 800-meter run – at state. Bishop finished in third place at Regionals with a time of two minutes, five seconds.
