An update from Sabetha Community Hospital

The Annual Golf Tournament was held on Saturday, June 4. It was huge success! The funds raised at the Golf Tournament will be used to purchase new Holter monitors for the Cardiac Rehab Department. The Holter monitors are small wearable devices that record the heart’s rhythm over a period of time.

Summer is off to a great start at Sabetha Community Hospital, Sabetha Family Practice and Nemaha County Home Health & Hospice. For the month of June, we want to recognize Melissa Love as our employee of the month. Melissa is a radiology tech who specializes in sonography. Melissa has worked at SCH for almost four years and enjoys being able to provide multiple-modality testing for patients in a rural area. Melissa and her husband, Derek, live in Seneca with their three-year-old son, Henry.

At SCH, respiratory therapist, Kendra Douglas is eager to begin pulmonary function tests (PFT). The equipment for the PFT was delivered the first week of June and she should begin performing them the week of June 9! Kendra has also begun setting up patients for home sleep studies. Some insurances, mainly commercial, request a home sleep study for patients versus a sleep study performed at a hospital or in a sleep lab. Having an in-house respiratory therapist has added additional, personalized care to our patients, while keeping them here in Sabetha.

At Sabetha Family Practice, providers are encouraging parents to bring their children in for well-child checks in addition to scheduling their own annual exams. Summer is a great time to catch up on healthcare, dental and vision exams. Did you know, Sabetha Family Practice also has free COVID-19 home test kits available? Every member of your household can receive a kit. Ask for your kit next time you are at Sabetha Family Practice.

Nemaha County Home Health & Hospice, located inside SCH, continues to provide in home health care as well as hospice care to all of Nemaha County. NCHH&H’s Home Health team was recently recognized for being a 4-1/2 star agency on Medicare Compare. Home Health is a team approach to assisting patients in staying in their own home as long as possible. The team includes nursing, physical therapist, occupational therapists and speech therapists. The team works together to develop a personalized plan of care approved by the primary care provider.

Patients who might benefit from home health services include patients being discharged from a skilled nursing facility and are being integrated back into their own home, a post-surgical patient, a patient with a new medication that may require some teaching, a patient with a new diagnosis of a chronic illness or a poorly managed chronic illness, a patient with frequent falls or multiple emergency room visits and the list goes on. Home health services is just another way SCH is improving the quality of health and care of our community!
