Sabetha sees increase in sales tax distributions

Sabetha’s sales tax distributions are above last year’s distributions for May. This is according to the May County/City Local Sales Tax Distribution Report released by the Kansas Department of Revenue.

The state issues these distributions two months after collection, so the May distribution is a reflection of March 2022 sales.

Sabetha saw increased sales tax distributions in the month of May alone — with distributions of $49,553.87, a 21.4 percent increase from the $40,820.75 distributed in May 2021. Sabetha’s local sales tax rate is 1 percent.

Fiscal year to date — from May 2021 to May 2022, compared with distributions in the same timeframe the previous year — Sabetha is up 6.9 percent.

With a sales tax rate of 1.5 percent, Hiawatha’s distributions went up 3.9 percent — from $108,274.95 in May 2021 to $112,542.88 in May 2022. Fiscal year to date, Hiawatha’s distributions are up 4.2 percent compared to last year.

Holton’s distributions are up 7.1 percent, from $72,627.65 in May 2021 to $77,786.54 in May 2022. Holton’s local sales tax rate is 0.75 percent. Fiscal year to date, Holton’s distributions are up 3.4 percent.

With a local sales tax rate of 1 percent, Seneca’s distributions are up 3.2 percent, from $68,990.64 in May 2021 to $71,222.07 in May 2022. Fiscal year to date, Seneca’s distributions are up 12.1 percent.

County

Nemaha, Brown and Jackson counties all saw an increase in sales tax distributions for the month of May.

Nemaha County, with a local sales tax rate of 1 percent, saw a 17.2 percent increase — from $194,022.05 in May 2021 to $227,428.16 in May 2022. Fiscal year to date, Nemaha County’s distributions are up 18.9 percent.

Brown County’s distributions went up 13 percent, from $128,193.40 in May 2021 to $144,901.88 in May 2022. Brown County has a local sales tax rate of 1 percent. Fiscal year to date, Brown County’s distributions are up 6 percent.

Jackson County, with a local sales tax rate of 1.4 percent, saw a 3.8 percent increase — from $196,408.19 in May 2021 to $203,957.98 in May 2022. Fiscal year to date, Jackson County’s distributions are up 0.3 percent.

State

Statewide, city and county distribution totals were up 8.7 percent in May. Distributions totaled $103,909,818.47 in May 2022, up from the $95,590,630.56 distributed in May 2021. Fiscal year to date, statewide distributions are up 10.4 percent.
