Bravos, Farmers split series

The Sabetha Bravos traveled to Topeka for a two game series with the Topeka Farmers on Friday, June 17, and Saturday, June 18. The Bravos and the Farmers split the two-game match-up as the Bravos captured the first game on Friday, 12-2, and the Farmers took the second game, 12-6, on Saturday. 

Friday

In the first game, the Bravos pounded out 13 hits on their way to scoring 12 runs.

Jose Fernandez led the hitting parade by going three for four at the plate with one of those hits being a double, and he also knocked in two runs. Sebesthian Guerra also picked up a pair of hits, including a double, and knocking four runs across the plate with his contribution. Ryonosuke Nosaka and Anthony Martinez also had a pair of hits, with Nosaka smashing a triple.

The Bravos took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first and then exploded for eight runs in the top of the third inning to basically put the game away.

Christian Veloz took the mound for the victorious Bravos and pitched five innings, allowing just one run on four hits with eight strikeouts and five walks. Fernando Falero came on in relief for the final two innings and allowed one run on one hit with two strikeouts and four walks.

Saturday

On the following night, the Farmers returned the favor to the Bravos by pounding out 11 hits and winning the game, 12-6.

The Bravos were held to seven hits and also committed three errors in the loss. Lei Rivero led the Bravos with a pair of hits, including a double, and went two for five at the plate. Rommel Perez went one for four at the plate, including a double, and knocked in a pair of runs as the Bravos were held in check by the Farmers pitching staff. 

Osvaldo Beltre pitched 4-2/3 innings and gave up six runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Sergio Clemente came on in relief and pitched 1-1/3 innings and allowed three runs on three hits with one walk. Mario Franco and Brandon Coronado closed out the game for the Bravos with Franco allowing three runs with one strikeout and two walks, and Coronado allowing no runs with four strikeouts and three walks.
