Tim Kellenberger gets us hooked on fishing
The fifth – and final – Picnic in the Park for the summer at the Mary Cotton Public Library on Wednesday, June 29, was all about fishing. There were approximately 100 in attendance.

Tim Kellenberger, along with fishing experts Graham Howard, Paul Harvey and Alex Helm, discussed different fish species found in Pony Creek Lake. They gave information concerning fishing and talked about some of their favorite fish to catch.
The crowd was invited to walk over to the fishing boat that Kellenberger brought to the library park. He told the crowd that “fishing is an adventure.” He reminded the kids to be safe on the water while fishing and the importance of wearing a life jacket.
Kellenberger also brought a tank full of live fish that Harvey, Helm and Howard had caught at Pony Creek Lake. Everyone gathered around the tank while Helm and Howard pulled some of the fish out to show. A few children were also able to use the nets to help catch fish.
Finally, all attendees received “fish” snacks — Goldfish and Swedish Fish — as well as a Fish Identification Guide and trading cards from Kansas Wildlife, Parks and Tourism.
The Picnic in the Park program is done for the summer, but stay tuned for other Library events including the Book vs. Movie Challenge in July. For more information, go to the Mary Cotton Public Library website at www.sabethalibrary.org.
