Farmers edge out Bravos at home

The Bravos hosted a familiar foe in the Topeka Farmers on Wednesday, July 6, at Sabetha’s Somerset, after splitting a double-header with this team before the Independence holiday weekend. Sabetha stretched a meager lead through the first six innings, but gave up two runs in the seventh and could not recover.

The Farmers scored in the top of the first inning on a walk and a series of wild pitches. Sabetha would tie the game in the bottom of the second when Ricky De Asis tagged first on a fly ball single to right. De Asis plated after he stole a base and came home on an error. The score would be tied, 1-1, through the first five innings.

The Bravos took the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a lead-off walk by Enrique Marrero, who advanced to second on a wild pitch and then stole third. He would cross the plate on a called balk to give Sabetha a 2-1 advantage.

Topeka would plate two runs on one hit in the top of the seventh inning. The Farmer’s Josue Vazquez had a fly ball single to left and would tie the game, 2-2, after stealing second and coming home on a pair of walks. Topeka took a 3-2 lead after a series of hit batsman.

The final two innings remained scoreless and Topeka took the win in this contest. The Farmers had three runs on three hits with one error, and the Bravos managed two runs on two hits and tallied two errors.
