Bravos fall to Blues in road game

Sabetha traveled to Baldwin City on Thursday, July 14, in the final game of the season to take on a league opponent in the Blues. These two met five times previously over the course of the season with Baldwin City leading the series, 3-2. The Bravos jumped out to an early lead, but their host made that a short-lived advantage when they plated seven runs in the first two innings and stretched that lead to give them the win, 14-6.

Jansel Jimenez was the lead off hitter for the Bravos and crushed a first pitch strike to centerfield for a triple to kick start his team’s offense. He would score on a hard-hit ground out by Andres Mendoza to put Sabetha up, 1-0. The Blues answered in the bottom half of the first inning with two runs, one of which was a two strike solo home run by their lead-off batter.

Baldwin City plated five runs on two hits in the top of the second inning and catapulted their lead to 7-1. The Bravos were shut out through innings two to six, but in the top of the seventh, they put five runs on a pair of walks and two hits, including an RBI double from Lei Rivero. Sabetha closed the gap, but trailed 9-6 with two innings to play.

The Bravos lost momentum and gave up five more runs to the Blues in the bottom of the eighth, only to be shutout the rest of the game to take the loss, 14-6. Sergio Clemente took the loss from the hill, giving up seven runs on seven hits, including a home run, he struck out one and walked one in his 1-2/3 innings. Carlos Trinidad pitched 5-2/3 innings, allowing seven runs on five hits, fanning eight and walking five. Henrique Marrero pitched two thirds of an inning giving up no runs.

Marrero went two for four at the plate with a run scored and two RBIs, Rivero was two for five, and Mendoza was one for three with a run scored and two RBIs.
